On April 22, 2016, I wrote about spring arriving at the park and our ability to open our summer retreat. Well Mother Nature, what have you done?
This morning we woke up to half an inch of snow on the ground and more falling. I literally, curled back up in bed and hoped it was a bad dream. To add to this, there was a scheduled power outage in our county so no heat, no lights and oh yes, no water. Great!
Our patio furniture and bright umbrellas look like they had been part of a bad joke. The joke was on us. The temperature was zero and we had flurries 🙁
We decided that it would be better for everyone if we went into Hanover, had breakfast and came back just in time for the power to come back on. It is about a 30 minute drive and we saw some serious weather. Really, next weekend is May 2-4….snow, yikes. The saving grace was that we got to spend time with dear friends, drink lots of hot coffee and enjoy a big breakfast. We did a little shopping and headed back to Pike Lake. Within minutes the power was on and our lazy Sunday could begin. There really is a silver lining to every cloud 🙂
Bill can only relax for so long, unlike me. He decided we really needed a new BBQ so went into Mount Forest and bought one. Like my Winter Soldier he put it together outside even though it was at the freezing point. While Bill was assembling our outdoor cooking apparatus, I took Cash for a walk , wow, that wind was crazy. Is it really May 15? How long do I need to keep my flowers inside? What do I do with all this mulch I bought and when can we fix our lawn???
I have rubber boots and sandals here at the lake but no winter boots, winter coat or mittens. Mother Nature, please forgive whatever sins we are guilty of and let us plant some flowers.
