I love Cashmere and based on the photo below, she loves me right back. I was sitting here deciding what to write about this evening and when I looked down I knew the topic. It was going to be about dogs and it was going to be positive!! We can learn so much from our dogs.
A Few Life Lessons We Learn from our Dogs
Live for today
Dogs remember things…the way you smell, what your car sounds like when it pulls in the driveway, where the treats are. However they don’t use this info often. Dogs live for the here and now. They don’t know what “tomorrow” means, yesterday is long gone. All there is is here and now so Go For It!!
Drink water, lots of Water.
Dogs know to drink when they are thirsty and sometimes when they are hungry. They drink water to fill the void. Most of us humans all need to drink more water and drinking water when hungry helps to curb hunger.
Love overcomes almost anything
We have all heard stories of mean dogs, scared dogs, injured or aggressive dogs that have been transformed by a caregiver. The caregiver could be a permanent adopter or in my sister’s case a Foster Parent. The love my sister provides these animals, the sheer unconditional caring and in some cases serious 1st Aid have helped to place so many dogs I have lost count. Love truly does conquer all. However to love another, you must love yourself 1st. By replacing fear and insecurity with love, life does get easier.
Do Something Fun Everyday
Dogs of most ages love to play. In many cases with younger dogs they are truly their happiest when playing. It can be running, swimming, good ole game of tug, Cash likes to chase fish. Humans need to learn to have more fun and to get more exercise. No better way to kill two birds with one stone than having fun with your dog. We all need a break from that 9-5 gig.
Love & Trust unconditionally
You are your dogs partner for life, they love and trust you without conditions. I know Cash can pull me out of any poor mood I might be in. With regard to trust, they teach us so much. As I used to tell each of my new employees, `By hiring you today, you have all my trust. It is up to you to keep it`. This might be a tall order but for many, I would see them relax immediately. Loving others unconditionally is a difficult task, but it’s the one that would surely make the world a better place if we all just tried.
